The group divides their efforts to try and identify the mysterious "Count", with
Dana researching at UCLA and Ethan using the resources at the house. While the two do the research Lauren
takes time to practice honing her psychic abilities and Patrick and Jalen go back out on regular patrols.
During her practice Lauren receives a vision of the Oracle being killed by an arrow and she immediately
calls Patrick and Jalen, who head over to the Oracle's apartment. Once they arrive Jalen scouts around the area
while Patrick checks on the Oracle, who seems to be alright. Suddenly, right in the middle of the Oracle's
conversation with Patrick, an arrow appears from nowhere, piercing the Oracle's heart and killing him instantly.
A shocked Patrick calls up Jalen, who recognizes the arrow as one used by the Shadow Walker clan. Examining
the shadowy corner where the arrow appeared from Jalen senses something, and before Patrick's eyes he vanishes
from sight. Jalen immediately realizes that he has entered the Shadow Realm, a mystic dimension linking all shadows
that the master assassins of the Shadow Clan have learned to access. This is the first time Jalen has been able to
truly enter the Shadow Realm, however, and he does not feel confident enough to try and locate the assassin.
As Patrick watches Jalen emerges from the shadows back into the Oracle's apartment.
Meanwhile, over at the university library, Dana is having no luck identifying the Count. She finally
decides to try out the restricted section, but the librarian reminds Dana that she needs Professor Rutherford's
permission any time she wants to access the restricted books. Luckily, though, the professor usually works late and
the librarian doesn't remember seeing him leave. Dana heads to the professor's office only to find him slumped over
his desk, dead. After recovering from the shock, Dana takes a quick look at the body, but the only marks she can find
are strange pin pricks on the back of the professor's neck. Dana calls the police, who shortly arrive on the scene.
Among the detectives on the scene is Patrick's ex-partner Frank Brigham, who has met Dana before and knows the sorts
of things she and Patrick are often involved in. He discovers what appears to be a tiny sword on the floor in the
office and knows that the regular forensic lab won't be able to make anything useful out of it so he covertly passes
it on to Dana.
Dana heads back to the house to get Ethan to examine the sword and arrives around the same time
as Patrick and Jalen, who bring news of the Oracle's death. Ethan believes that the deaths were not a coincidence
and wonders who else may be targeted. When Dana mentions that she saw Frank Brigham, Patrick calls Frank's cell phone,
only it is Andrew Cross who answers. A distraught Patrick crushes the phone in his hand, realizing that his old partner
is dead, then realizes that his ex-wife is also a potential target. Patrick immediately takes his car and heads to his
old house. Thinking about who else may be in danger Lauren immediately calls her sister, Emma, and tells her she's in
danger, while Jalen calls his brother, Ben, to give a similar warning. Ethan calls Alexandra to warn her, but denies it is
because he cares. Jalen's brother takes the warning seriously and says he will leave San Francisco immediately while Lauren
tells Emma to pack some things and that she will come and get her. Lauren, accompanied by Dana, then takes the SUV to head to get Emma from her and Lauren's parents' house. After
the two have left Ethan calls Anne at the teen shelter only to learn that she is in immediate danger. Jalen and Ethan
head for the teen shelter on Jalen's motorbike, hoping they can get there before it is too late.
When Patrick reaches his old house he sees a black car parked in front. He rings the doorbell and his
supernatural senses tell him a split second before the door opens that Cross is there. Patrick's ex-wife, Sarah, reluctantly
invites him in, telling him that Cross had come over to break the bad news about Frank's "unfortunate" death.
After a short awkward conversation between the three Patrick is able to convince Sarah to take their daughter out of town for
a while. Patrick then gets up to leave and "suggests" that Cross do the same. Once the two have left the house
Patrick forces Cross into his car so they can have a private conversation and the two drive off.
Meanwhile, Lauren and Dana arrive at the Sheppard house and find that Dr. Abrams, Wolfram & Hart's
pet psychiatrist, is already there trying to convince Lauren's parents to let him take Emma. The Sheppards are shocked
to see Lauren, who they haven't spoken to in years; as is Dr. Abrams. Emma leaves with Lauren and Dana. Across town Jalen
and Ethan reach the teen shelter to see it is under attack by a gang of Netherpunks. Ethan fights his way into the building
while Jalen starts dealing with the undead creatures outside. Hearing cries from upstairs, Ethan gets to a bedroom where
Anne, Jennifer Guerrin, and a couple of other kids are trying to fend off the Netherpunks.
Elsewhere Patrick is asking Cross to leave Sarah out of it but Cross says that decision is out of his hands.
Knowing that Sarah isn't safe from Cross, Patrick goes on the attack. Grabbing a tire iron he rams it through Cross' chest,
pinning his ex-partner to the passenger seat. Patrick then guns the car, sending it careening into a propane tank at a
closed gas station, jumping out at the last second before the car explodes in a ball of flame. Watching the inferno,
Patrick is not very surprised to see that the demonically-powered Cross has survived and is coming out to attack him.
Patrick calmly draws his pistol and empties a clip into the still-burning Andrew Cross before finally drawing his sword.
In his weakened condition Cross is no match for Patrick, whose enchanted sword is particularly effective at dispatching
his ex-partner. Knowing he is mortally wounded, Cross tells Patrick that it doesn't matter, it was all a distraction anyway
before expiring.
Back at the teen shelter Ethan tells Jalen to cut he and the others an escape path but Jalen tells him it will
be faster for him to take them out the second floor window. As Ethan is getting the others out the window one of the other kids
in the room turns to him and Ethan sees that it is Keri Prescott, the vampire witch. Keri promptly hits Ethan point blank with
a mystic blast, sending him flying out the window to the street below. Seeing Ethan fall, Jalen fights his way up to the room
to confront Keri only to have her cast a spell that causes him to fall through shadows on the floor into the Shadow Realm.
Keri then takes Jennifer and leaves with the Netherpunks. A frantic Anne calls the house and reaches Dana and Lauren who rush
to the shelter with Emma in tow.
