Jalen and the others injured during the battle with Talan are still recovering at the
house when Emma is hit by a vision. She sees a bloody battle being fought near somewhere called the
Sunshine Wilderness Campground. The group, except for Emma, head out north of LA towards the
campground. While still a few miles from their destination the car is stopped dead by a strange flash
of light in the night sky. When they realize that all of their electronics have stopped working the
group figures that they have been hit by an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Proceeding on foot towards what
they think is the source of the light the group is surprised when a dark figure races past them. Jalen
and Patrick head off in pursuit of the figure while Dana and Ethan continue on their original course,
which also seems to be the direction the running figure came from.
When Patrick and Jalen catch up with the figure they discover that it is a soldier,
apparently one of the commando group they had encountered previously. The soldier is terrified and
barely coherent but the two heroes manage to get enough out of him to realize that the commando's base
is nearby and that something bad has happened. Dana and Ethan meanwhile have reached a fenced compound
that appears to have been where the running man had come from. All the power is out except for
emergency lights so Ethan and Dana proceed inside. Inside the main building they see blood and signs
of a battle but no bodies. They reach what looks like a group kitchen and find that someone has torn
the door off of the large fridge. Investigating the fridge they realize that it has a false back which
leads to a small corridor ending in an elevator. Prying open the door they climb down the elevator
shaft, at the bottom of which they can hear gunfire and other sounds of a battle. Shortly after
reaching the bottom of the shaft the two are joined by Patrick and Jalen.
Outside the elevator at the bottom of the shaft is a massive three-way battle. It appears
to be the commandos' base, but the soldiers are fighting off a large number of vampires as well as
several other vampire-like creatures, vicious demons called Turok-Han. The soldiers are doing well
enough against the vampires but the Turok-Han are decimating them. Patrick and Jalen attack the
Turok-Han while Dana and Ethan survey the rest of the fight. After a quick check of the underground
base Dana spots a corridor with strange lights emanating from it. With Jalen and Patrick providing
cover she and Ethan make their way to the hallway.
The corridor appears to have at one point been a secure area for research labs but
most of the doors have sealed shut due to the power loss. One door is open and this is the source
of the strange light. Ethan and Dana enter the room to discover a large lab at the center of
which is a large portal generating device, and the portal is where the Turok-Han are coming from.
Even more surprising are who else is in the room; at the portal's control console the two see
Dr. Maalik, whom they believed to have been killed months ago, and fighting Maalik and the Turok-Han
are the two Dusk Lords, Talan and Keri. It seems that once Talan figured out that Maalik was using
vampire blood to empower the commandos he took it upon himself to stop what he perceived as an
abomination. Leading a group of vampires Talan and Keri assaulted the compound and to defend
himself Maalik activated the portal, unleashing the Turok-Han (and the EMP).
Ethan immediately shoots Maalik with a sub-machine gun he picked up from a dead
commando then turns to face Talan and Keri, and the Turok-Han who seem prepared to kill everyone
in the room. While Dana tries to figure out how to reverse the portal and banish the Turok-Han
Ethan guards her. Talan and Keri are both battling the Turok-Han, treating Dana and Ethan as
lesser threats at the moment. Dana succeeds and the Turok-Han are pulled back to their home dimension,
after which Dana smashes the control console. With the Turok-Han gone, Patrick and Jalen leave the
remaining vampires to the commandos and run to find their two friends.
Once Patrick and Jalen arrive the group enters into battle with Talan and Keri.
This time they are more prepared and Patrick is able to get several good strikes on Talan while
Jalen grabs Keri and places a blade at her throat to stop her from interfering. Patrick succeeds
in dealing Talan a lethal blow and the Dusk Lord falls. Acting quickly Keri frees herself by severing
her own head with Jalen's blade. Since this has no real effect on a Dusk Lord she is able to get to
Talan's body and cast a teleportation spell to take her and the body away.
Surveying the aftermath the group notices that, despite being shot point-blank by
Ethan, Maalik has escaped. However, the commandos are grateful for the group's help and the unit
commander, Lt. Tom Edwards, repays them by handing over the file they have on Maalik. Edwards also
tells the group that his commanders will probably deem the project a failure and close the compound,
sending the surviving commandos on a new mission.
On the way back to the car Dana flips through Maalik's file, which includes pictures
of him in a Nazi uniform. She is distracted when she realizes that it is starting to snow fairly heavily,
something that shouldn't be happening in Los Angeles. Meanwhile back at Talan's mountain lair
Keri is preparing Talan's body, which is starting to liquefy (which is what happens to a Dusk Lord
when it dies). Keri catches the liquified remains and pours them over the ancient sarcophagus she
and Talan had retrieved a few days earlier. As the liquid oozes over the sarcophagus it begins to be drawn inside
through the seams and cracks until it has all been consumed. Keri looks on and comments that Talan's
death will not have been in vain.
